Ecological Initiatives & Environment

In Salento, we don't just ride on the wind. We are committed to protecting every grain of sand, every olive tree and every wave for the generations of 2026 and beyond.

Our Commitment

A fragile balance between adrenaline and preservation

Kitesurfing is not just a sport: it's a communion with the elements. The wind that inflates our wings, the water that carries our boards, the sand that welcomes our steps -- all this forms an ecosystem we depend on. Protecting this environment is guaranteeing that Salento remains a paradise for riders today and tomorrow. Every decision we make, from accommodation to gear, is guided by this conviction.

GREEN Project

The GREEN Project: Bringing the Land of Olive Trees Back to Life

Since 2013, the Xylella Fastidiosa bacteria has been ravaging Puglia's centuries-old olive trees. Millions of trees have dried up, transforming green landscapes into desolate stretches. The GREEN Project is our collective response: replant, restore and bring life back to this land that welcomes us. Every olive tree planted is an act of resistance against desertification and an investment for the future.

Olivami Collaboration

Thanks to our partnership with Olivami, every visitor can adopt an olive tree and follow its growth. A part of our revenue directly finances the replanting of resistant varieties.

Carbon Capture

Each adult olive tree absorbs about 10 kg of CO2 per year. Our replanting program contributes to offsetting emissions related to our visitors' travel.

Jobs & Community

The project creates sustainable jobs for local farmers and strengthens community ties around safeguarding Salento's olive-growing heritage.

Best Practices

Eco-Responsible Guide

Some simple gestures to enjoy Salento while preserving it. Riding responsibly means riding longer.

01

Respect dunes and vegetation

Use marked paths to access spots. Dunes and coastal flora are fragile ecosystems that protect the coastline from erosion.

02

Mineral sunscreen

Prioritize sunscreens with mineral filters, non-toxic to marine life. Chemical filters destroy corals and disrupt aquatic fauna.

03

Repair before replacing

A torn wing or a worn bar can often be repaired. Extending your gear's lifespan considerably reduces your ecological footprint.

04

Collect waste — "3 for the sea" rule

Every session, pick up at least 3 pieces of trash on the beach. A simple gesture that, multiplied by thousands of riders, transforms our coastlines.

05

Carpooling to spots

Share your rides to kitesurfing spots. Fewer cars parked on the coastline, fewer emissions and more conviviality among riders.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Ecology & Kitesurfing

Why does Xylella affect kitesurfing?
The destruction of olive trees modifies the landscape, soil erosion and local microclimates. Olive groves serve as a natural windbreak and their disappearance impacts the thermal conditions we use to ride.
How can I participate in a beach cleanup?
Contact us via our form and we will sign you up for the next cleanup session organized with our local partners.
Are there eco-designed kite brands?
Yes, several manufacturers develop wings in recycled materials and boards in certified wood. We can advise you during your visit.
What is the Olivami project?
Olivami is an association that allows everyone to adopt an olive tree in Puglia to finance the replanting of varieties resistant to Xylella.
Is tap water drinkable in Salento?
Tap water is drinkable in most localities, but its taste can vary. We recommend filter bottles as an ecological alternative to plastic bottles.
Is kitesurfing allowed in nature reserves?
No, kitesurfing is forbidden in protected areas like the Regional Natural Park. Always check local regulations before getting in the water.
